Michelle Sinning

Vice President

Throughout her 27-year career, Michelle Sinning has designed and implemented communications initiatives across many industries, particularly transportation, water and energy infrastructure. She is adept in all areas of communications including community outreach, brand and message development, digital engagement, media relations, crisis communications, media training, creative development and media buying. Michelle joined Consensus in 2008.

Michelle holds a designation of Accredited Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America. She has served many years on the boards of Society for Marketing Professional Services, Orange County Chapter, and the San Diego Chapter of the Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy.

Education: Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Nazan Armenian

Executive Vice President, Partner

Nazan provides strategic communications counsel to engage stakeholders, communicate ideas, and build supportive environments for client initiatives. Recognized for her intense creativity and innovative approaches, Nazan is responsible for growing the firm’s award-winning capabilities in digital and social media strategies, video production, creative content, and strategic media relations. Since joining Consensus in 2002, she has designed and directed hundreds of communications programs for complex and controversial projects toward successful outcomes in housing, transportation, infrastructure, land use, environmental remediation, water, and commercial real estate. Her clients include large multi-national Fortune 500 companies, privately held enterprises, and government agencies throughout California.

Nazan moved to Los Angeles in 1999 during the dot-com boom and found a new career trajectory in the Technology Practice at global PR firm, Fleishman-Hillard. She quickly cultivated relationships with venture capital firms and start-ups, assisting with brand-building and preparing companies for IPOs. She soon built a reputation for conducting highly successful business media and industry analyst tours, securing coverage in top-tier business media including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Time, Business Week, Newsweek, Fast Company, Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post.

Prior to building her expertise in tech public relations, Nazan began her career in Washington, D.C. at another large reputable PR firm, Burson-Marsteller. While there, she was immersed in corporate media relations for varied product launches by Coca-Cola (the New Coke), McDonnell-Douglas (C-17), Eli-Lilly (Prozac), and Motorola. She continued honing her media relations skills working on behalf of the Government of Mexico for the passage of the historic North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

When the firm decided to launch a practice devoted to privatization and economic development, Nazan was assigned to work with a renowned leader in the field brought on from The World Bank’s International Finance Corporation. Together they grew the team and the practice to a value of more than $9 million.

During this time in her career, Nazan developed extensive knowledge and skills in implementing communications strategies for international economic development programs funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and The World Bank. In the 1990s, she spent several years traveling to implement communications campaigns in support of privatization and capital market development in Africa, Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Armenia.

Her skillset led her to specialize in trade and investment promotion and in 1998 she co-founded an international trade consultancy, which organized the first-ever U.S.-Cuba Business Summit in Havana, Cuba. She and her business partner subsequently organized more than a dozen licensed trips to Cuba through 2017 for U.S. business executives from numerous Chambers of Commerce, the American Growers Association, and the National League of Cities, among other groups.

Nazan has been active in the Urban Land Institute, Los Angeles District Council, serving on the communications committee for their annual conference, FutureBuild. She also participates in the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Central City Association of Los Angeles. She is a past member of the Board of Directors for Genesis LA, an organization dedicated to bringing financial and economic solutions to Los Angeles underserved communities.

Nazan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor degree in Philosophy from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Josh Gertler

President & CEO

Josh is the president and CEO of Consensus, a Los Angeles-based public relations firm founded in 1986. The firm ranks among the largest independently-owned public relations firms in Southern California and the top 100 in the nation. Josh has spent his entire career developing and delivering communications strategies for corporations, governments, brands, projects, places and ideas.

Consensus has been pioneering consensus-building approaches and applying them to major issues and challenges since the firm’s founding. The company’s innovative engagement methods are designed to create value, develop meaningful connections, bolster or repair perception, and frequently evoke an action. Josh’s specific expertise is focused on helping clients navigate the intersection of business, government, community and the media. He provides strategic communications counsel and engagement strategies to some of the nation’s largest and most respected companies, developers, landowners and government officials.

Josh joined Consensus in January 2001 and was named president in January 2007. Previously, he spent nearly a decade at two of the world’s largest public relations firms, Hill & Knowlton and Fleishman-Hillard, where he counseled clients on public affairs and media strategies. He actively participates in many business and civic organizations.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the largest business organization in America’s second largest city, and he is active in the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Josh graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Sonoma State University.
